I really hate laptop computers. Let me give the reasons for this:
- You can't customize them as much as desktops.
- They're more expensive for the same specifications than desktops.
- The keyboards are not very ergonimical.
- The screens are usually of poor quality.
- That damn touch pad for mouse thing is rubbish.
- The batteries never last very long, so you always need to plug it in anway.
- The word "laptop" sounds lame. Even "notebook computer", while a little better, is still dumb.
- They are easier to damage.
Some people champion why laptops are nice. Let me list those reasons and then my counter
argument to each:
Argument 1: "Laptops are portable, you can take them anywhere!"
My Response: Big deal? They don't work well in direct sunglight because they overheat and it's difficult
to see the screen. So taking them to a park is retarded. Why are you at the park anyway? To enjoy
nature or computing? If you take your laptop to Starbucks to surf the net, you are lame. If you think you
want to watch a DVD on your laptop in your living room so your laptop is useful, why don't you just get a TV?
Do you like watching movies on tiny screens (like that stupid ipod)?
Argument 2: I need it for work.
My Response: If you need to have your work with you 24-7 then maybe you work too much. Work smarter
not harder (as Scrooge McDuck's father used to tell him). Finish your work at your office, or leave it
there. Taking it around with your just emphasizes you are a drone for your office, or too wrapped up in your
work to have a life beyond the keyboard.
