Air travel puts me in a bad mood. In this rant I'll examine why.

Air Travel Is Unsafe

They say, statistically, air travel is the safest method of travel. Just look at how many people die yearly from automobile or train accidents compared to air travel accidents.

Compare how many times people who have died in air crashes have driven without crashing and dying. They drive everyday and then just one day then take a plane and it crashes. Those are terrible odds if you look at it individually. So while I'm flying I'm in constant fear for my life and that tends to put me in poor spirits.

Air Travel is Uncomfortable

Have you ever noticed the cabin is noisy and cold? And who doesn't hate airplane seats? Waiting on the tarmac to depart for hours. Waiting even longer to disembark. The wait to disembark really angers me. We've already arrived, open the damn doors already and get me out of this death trap!

Also, when all you want to do is sit and contemplate if you will die instantly or not in the crash that you are sure will come, some idiot next to you wants to have a conversation. I think I'll tell the next person that tries to start a conversation on an airline with me something cryptic and/or creepy.

Idiot trying to make throw away small talk: "Hey, ever been to Germany before?"
Me: "Once, in a past life. I think I'll visit in my next life too."
Idiot trying to make throw-away small talk: "What about this life. heh?"
Me: "I'd like very much if we made it."

I wish people would just shut up. Also I wish they would shut up and not travel with babies. Babies do not need to travel on vacation with you. Leave them at home they are a liability. They won't remember it and you're just annoying everyone else on the plane and jeopardizing the baby's life needlessly.

Airports Suck

I know what you're thinking; "No they don't they are cool and they have malls and nice clean facilities and all kinds of places to eat." Well, if you don't mind paying $3 for a five pack of gum then be my guest. For anyone normal, airport prices are ridiculous beyond ridiculous. They try to nickel and dime you at every step. Duty free? Yeah there's no way you're not gonna be paying taxes on all that stuff. That is if you even get it home with you. The airlines or security just might confiscate your stuff just because, because.

You want to park at the airport? Better bring your life savings.

Security BS

I don't know what pisses me off more, A) that the government has labeled everyone as a potential terrorist or that B) the majority of people put up with that assumption. I make it a point not to say anything to security unless they ask directly. I don't say 'please' or 'thank you' and I make eye contact with them just so I can glare at them and show them my disapproval.

Airlines Suck

What do they do? They charge you super high hidden fees for everything and make you wait in airports forever. They lose your luggage and pretty much ensure your travel plans don't go off without some complication. And their staff sits there at the counter and pretends it's not their fault. News to them, if they're not part of the solution, they are the problem.

In Summary

From the time when I enter the airport until the time I leave the airport I'm in a sour mood. I guess being in fear of a plane crash and having to pay exorbant amounts of money for everything having to wait in a cramped plane before and after take off and having my personal rights trampled upon by security pretty much piss me off. I don't know how anyone can say they love air travel.
