Facebook changed its layout in the summer of 2008. Me and about every other facebook user is wondering the same
thing; what the hell were you dudes thinking?!
First and foremost: the redesign was absolutely UNNECESSARY! You were already closing in on cornering the English speaking social networking
site market. Internet people, well all the people that matter anyway, were moving away from that gods-awful myspace abomination.
If you have a good thing, why change it? You don't see KFC reinventing their recipe and you don't see sports teams
trading away or releasing their star co-captains after the best season in franchise history, do you? (Well, you wouldn't if you weren't a Sabres fan!)
For me it's not even about the look of the new facebook, although for many users it probably is. No, for me it's the
slow painfully slow time it takes to load a page. And for those of you
who don't know why it's because of AJAX (the web-technology that facebook is built on). It's intolerably slow.
It's changed the way I use the site. I click a link in facebook go to another tab in my browser (Opera) and then come back after
about 15 seconds to find the page partially loaded! Calling the site slow is almost a compliment.
I need to check a thaesuarus for some more words that mean slow. And I need to check a dictionary for the spelling of "thesaurus"... I digress.
Okay, here we go with slow synonyms: dilatory, laggard, tardy (I like that one), oh and a recent entry: the new facebook
So what can you do? Well you can give them some scathing feedback. Go ahead, it will make you feel better!
