Hockey is the coolest game on earth! Or so the NHL tells us. I whole-heartedly agree. Being from Buffalo, it's practically religion.
Here's how hockey compares to other popular sports.
- Hockey is faster than: football, golf, basketball, baseball, and soccer.
- Body checking makes the game much more physical than basketball or baseball; and a lot more fun to watch.
- Hockey's gameplay moves along much faster than: golf, basketball, baseball, football, and soccer. Changing on the fly is a big part of
why hockey is so great. Players can jump on or off the playing surface during live play. What other sport can you do that in?
- Pro Hockey players can fight without getting ejected from the game. Any other team sport that I know of, fighting is an ejection and possibly fines.
Wussies.
- Hockey can be played outdoors too!
- Girls can play hockey and don't need to be all manish to do so. Seen any female football or basketball players lately?
- Hockey has just the right amout of scoring. No 100 point boring repetitive scoring games like in basketball. Never (well almost never) 90 minutes of just play to end
up with just one goal like soccer.
- Scoring can happen fast, and either team can score, unlike soccer when you pretty much know that the team on defense will not score within the next 10
seconds. Not so in hockey; a player can fly down the ice and score at almost any time.
- Hockey's fans aren't hooligans like soccer's.
- Hockey's fans aren't rednecks like NASCAR's.
I think that if more people saw a hockey game or even went to a game they'd be hooked. I have no idea why crappy sports like
baseball and basketball are more popular.
