Welcome to my Bali page. Adelle and I visited Bali for a vacation at the end of May 2007. The place is pretty much a tropical ghetto.
The locals try to sell you anything and everything. I don't recommend Bali for a vacation. I even wrote a rant about it.
My Thoughts on Bali

Bali, like any other place, has good and bad points. The weather was nice and the scenery was
nice away from the towns and touristy centers. The activities we did were fun. What did we do? Well,
we saw a traditional play, visited two temples, saw an active volcano, went snorkeling, jetskiing,
parasailing, and white water rafting.
Unfortunately many people are living in poverty or just above the poverty line and in Kuta, the main
tourist area, so everything is run down and polluted. Garbage is all over the place, the infrastructure
is falling apart, and everyone, even little kids(!) are trying to sell you something.
Our hotel was nice, except that during the day time the next room was being renovated so we had to
listen to pounding of hammers and the occasional power saw. The massage I got on the first day was very
nice, and I bought a new necktie at Marks and Spencer's in the mall. The staff at the hotel were very
friendly and helpful when helping us plan our activities. Props goes to Wily and Midi from the Green
Garden Hotel in Kuta for their outstanding help.
Unlike Japan, where people are afraid to speak English, people in Bali have no reservations about trying
to speak their broken English while attempting to hawk you something. Felt like everyone was trying to rip
me off. I can't recommend Bali as a good vacation spot, all the activities we did can be done elsewhere
without the worry of people trying to con you.
