I traveled to Thailand while living in Japan. I visited uncle Bob, while he was teaching English as an exchange teacher with AFS. Thailand is pretty much third world and I wouldn't be jealous if you haven't been there. Nice and spicy rice though.

I visited my uncle Bob who was teaching English there. I first arrived in Bangkok where I met up with my uncle at the airport. From there we went to a pretty run down hotel with cockroaches scurring all over the doorway.
I stayed in Bangkok for five nights and five days. The second day we went to a much nicer hotel on the other side of the city because Bob had some AFS business to take care of. I toured around the main toursity area of the city on my third day. I found out the hard way that Thai venders and taxi and tuk-tuk drivers are really pushy and try to hustle you at every turn. Bangkok is also very polluted, it reeks like garbage at times. If it's not garbage it's exhaust from all the cars that gets you.
The third night in Bangkok was the funnest for me. That's when we went to the big night entertainment district called Pat Pong. Pat Pong is full of sex shops and live sex show bars/lounges. The staff sits outsided these places and tries to get you to come in and can be very pushy and very persistent following you down the street and around the block. There is a a section of Pat Pong especially for transvestites and it's funny to walk through, especially if you're a guy.
The day after that we moved back to another run down hotel in the middle of the city. Bob had to visit the embassy so after he did that he met up with Ja, his exchange daughter. I was feeling hung over so I slept in the hotel for a long time. When I woke up I called Bob and we decided to see a movie. We caught a showing of "The Longest Yard" for only 3 and a half bucks!
The last day in Bangkok me and Bob toured the Grand Palace, which was...interesting to say the least. Then we met up with a few of Bob's former exchange students that recently came back from America. We walked around a bit and had lunch with them. Then it was time to board the night train to Surat Thani, Bob's home away from home in the south of Thailand. The ride was long and a bit uncomfortable but we finally arrived at around 8 AM.
Bob's home in Thailand is in Surat Thani. When we came back the school was having their 90th anniversary festival which was nice to see. We kicked it around Surat Thani for a few days. Bob showed me all the different sights of the town and I also visited his school and met some of his students. I also remember getting a massage from a man dressed up like a girl. Pretty freaky.
After a few days in Surat Thani me and Bob took a trip to the world famous Koh Samui. It's really a tropical paradise. I enjoyed lounging on the beach during the day and watching Lady's Thai Boxing at night. What a way to spend my vacation! After spending a day night in Koh Samui it was time to go back to Surat Thani.
The next day Bob had classes so I went to school with him and I taught a few of his classes. I played some games with the younger kids and also corrected some of his older students essay assignments. I was well recepted by the students. The next day I had to go back to Bangkok by train to catch my plane back to Japan. The train took a really long time because it kept stopping. I managed to make my plane and get back to Osaka in one piece. I'll always remember my Thailand adventure.
